What is Refractory Ceramic Fiber (RCF)
Browse: The release date:2019-04-17

Refractory Ceramic Fiber (RCF), or Aluminum Silicate Wool (in China market name) blankets made from kaolin, or aluminum silicate mixture with temperature capabilities up to 1425°C (2600°F). Refractory Ceramic Fiber (RCF) describes a family of synthetic vitreous fibers that is typically used for refractory insulation and fire protection. RCF products are "Amorphous man-made fibers produced from melting, blowing or spinning of calcined kaolin clay (products from Minye with this chemistry are Normal or Standard 1260 grade of RCF products)or a combination of alumina (Al2O3) and silica (SiO2). RCF products made from the combination of alumina (Al2O3) and silica (SiO2) are called High Purity (or HP) RCF products. Oxides such as zirconia may also be added and with that chemistry change, the product will be call AZS (Alumina Zirconia Silicate) RCF. Typically RCFs are high purity alumino-silicates containing 48-54% silica and 48-54% alumina. The production of AZS includes zirconia RCFs containing 15-17% zirconia and 35-36% alumina with a silica content similar to that in the high purity fibers.

Before the invention of RCF, people used refractory cement and brick as the furnace lining or insulation materials. With the development of Ceramic fiber, People enjoy the excellent performance of high temperature insulation fiber by its low thermal conductivity and better thermal shock resistance.  Refractory ceramic fiber (RCF) products are used predominantly in industrial applications to provide energy efficient, high-temperature insulation. To date, not a single case of occupational disease has been attributed to RCF during over forty years of use. Based on some severe animal experiments, however, the EU classified RCF as a category 2 carcinogen in December 1997. Refractory Ceramic fiber (RCF) with its maximum working temperature to 1340C is still the first option for high temperature furnace lining in Iron Steel and CPI (Chemical & Petrochemical Industries) even though the increasing health concerns of RCF and PCW pressure the customers and manufacturers to research and manufacture the alternative solution in the future. In simple words, RCF are still survived in the market and customers might need to find alternative products in Europe. The alternative products to RCF are PCW or Low Bio-persistence (or call bio-soluble fiber) products.  We will share more information about RCF and Bio Soluble fiber products by email if you are interest.

Minye enjoys the high reputation in China for its RCF blankets and has been selling to over 2600 customer worldwide with its 5 manufacturing facilities. The team of Minye has great experience with RCF and Bio Soluble Products.
